The Nursing Home (House of Elders) of St.George’s Church in  Kipseli district was founded in 1978 by the ex President of the Parishes’ Charity fund, Reverend Father Konstantinos Vastakis and his associates.

It was originally housed in a rented building on Hydra street with very few elders. The place was very small and it was then decided the construction of a larger seven layer building, 2.100m2 on a privately owned area of the Church, on Kefalinia street. The land was donated, through a will, by Mrs. Anna Theocharidou a national martyr.

Initially, ladies of the parish worked voluntarily, but a better service for 74 elderly women that could be hosted at the nursing home required the recruitment of specialized staff. Today the Nursing Home has a Head Nurse, 11 nurses, 3 cooks, an accountant, a storekeeper, a secretary – cashier and an accountant. The ladies that live in our Home are being treated by a doctor who visits them at least 3 times a week. On the 15th of July 2011 following a decision of the Board of Directors it will now accept men also, mostly bedridden.

The first floor houses the chapel of Saint Nectarios and of all the merciful Saints, where the Divine Liturgie is offered. The same floor houses the Cultural Center of our parish, where various activities of our Parishes’ Youth take place. On the ground floor a large hall can accommodate 180 people where our parishioners can host their memorial services.

Finally, cooked meals and food parcels are provided daily for 43 homeless parishioners and also a number of individuals or families receive monthly financial aid.
